Bring Simplicity and Care to Your Laundry Routine

You know the smell your clothes get when you're washing at someone else's house, or you borrow someone's towel, or jumper? Everyone has a unique smell. I used to love the variances... until i found out how harsh and damaging they were.

So, instead, I started making my own.

Say goodbye to chemical-laden laundry products and hello to a healthier, more sustainable way to care for your clothes. With just a few natural ingredients you can create your own washing powder and fabric softener right at home.

So similar to the dishwashing powder, you can literally buy in bulk and save even more! Let’s embrace the joy of crafting a laundry routine that’s as kind to your family as it is kind to your clothes.

DIY Washing Powder Recipe:

  • 1 cup borax (cleans and deodorizes)
  • 1 cup washing soda (helps remove tough stains)
  • 1 bar pure soap (grated finely for a smooth texture)
  • ¼ cup fine salt (softens water for better cleaning)
  • 10–15 drops essential oil (e.g., lavender, tea tree, or eucalyptus for a fresh, natural scent)

Method:

  1. Prepare the soap: Use a grater or food processor to finely grate the pure soap (I use the Thermomix). This helps it dissolve easily in the wash.
  2. Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the grated soap, borax, washing soda, and salt. Stir well to ensure an even blend. (I add all of this to the Thermomix)
  3. Add essential oil: Drop the essential oil into the mixture, stirring thoroughly to distribute the scent evenly.
  4. Store: Transfer your washing powder to an airtight container, and keep it in a cool, dry place.
  5. Use: Add 1 tablespoon of the washing powder per load, depending on the size of your laundry.

DIY Fabric Softener Recipe:

  • 1/2 Cups white vinegar
  • 10–15 drops essential oil (for a light, refreshing scent)

 Instructions:

  1. Add the vinegar solution to your liquid compartment.

* Once the vinegar mixes with the powder, there will be a chemical reaction, the best part for removing those dirt particles!
