Left over coffee grounds?

There’s something undeniably special about coffee—the aroma, the ritual, and of course, its invigorating effects. But did you know your morning coffee can offer more than just a caffeine fix? It can also give your skin the glow it deserves! In this post, we’ll explore the magic of crafting your own mycotoxin-free (essential!) coffee scrub using simple, clean ingredients. Not only does this scrub repurpose used coffee grounds, but it’s also enriched with coconut oil, fine Celtic Sea salt, and the soothing essence of frankincense oil- all of your skin's favorites!

Why Mycotoxin-Free Matters

Mycotoxins, naturally occurring toxins produced by certain molds, can be found in coffee and other food items. Ensuring your coffee is mycotoxin-free helps keep potential irritants away from your skin—especially important when using it in a scrub. For this recipe, the star ingredient is clean, used coffee grounds. (We get ours via a subscription from Changing Habits)

The Benefits of the Ingredients

  • Coffee Grounds: A natural exfoliant that gently removes dead skin cells while improving circulation and reducing the appearance of cellulite.
  • Coconut Oil: Deeply hydrating and packed with skin-loving fatty acids.
  • Fine Celtic Sea Salt: Provides additional exfoliation while delivering essential minerals to nourish your skin.
  • Frankincense Essential Oil: Known for its calming and rejuvenating properties; it helps reduce redness and enhances your skin’s natural glow.

Mycotoxin-Free Coffee Scrub RecipeIngredients:

  • ½ cup used coffee grounds (ensure they’re from mycotoxin-free coffee)
  • ¼ cup coconut oil (melted)
  • 2 tablespoons fine Celtic Sea salt
  • 5-10 drops of frankincense essential oil

 Instructions:

  1. Gather your clean, used coffee grounds. These should be from freshly brewed coffee that is certified mycotoxin-free. Allow them to dry completely. (After our morning coffee, I empty the grounds into a cleaned tin and put on low in the oven until dry.)
  2. Melt the coconut oil until it’s liquid but not overly hot.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the coffee grounds and Celtic Sea salt. Stir gently.
  4. Gradually pour in the melted coconut oil, stirring to ensure everything is well combined.
  5. Add the frankincense essential oil, adjusting the drops based on your preferred scent intensity. Mix thoroughly.
  6. Transfer your scrub to an airtight container. Store it in a cool, dry place and use within two weeks.

How to Use:

Apply the scrub to damp skin in circular motions, focusing on areas prone to dryness or rough texture. Rinse off with warm water and pat your skin dry. For best results, use 1-2 times per week.

Conclusion: A Ritual of Rejuvenation By creating your own mycotoxin-free coffee scrub, you’re not just crafting a skincare product—you’re embracing sustainability, purity, and self-care. Repurposing used coffee grounds will save you a TONNE of money!
